We live to make Christ known.

Weekly Wednesday Prayer Time

As we gather together this Wednesday, we’ll be reminded where our security lies. Let’s take a look at Psalm 62.

For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. (verse 1-2, ESV)

Do you have patience for God, or do you feel like you need to solve the world’s or your own problems by yourself? It is easy to get shaken if the outcome of things in our life is dependent on us. That is a lot of weight to carry.

For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God. (verses 5-7, ESV)

In God alone there is hope. It is only through Him that our salvation comes. In Him we have a secure resting place. We can close our eyes in peace each night.

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Those of low estate are but a breath; those of high estate are a delusion; in the balances they go up; they are together lighter than a breath. Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them. (verse 8-10, ESV)

Your station in life or your wealth are temporary. They are not effective places to put your hope. God invites us to pour out our hearts to Him. He is glad to draw us in, offering protection and an eternal home.

Once God has spoken; twice have I heard this: that power belongs to God, and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love. For you will render to a man according to his work. (verse 11-12, ESV)

Power and love belong to our Lord. We would not want one without the other. He can do what is needed, and His actions are based on compassion. Because of faith in Jesus, we are measured by His actions rather than our own. God is our hope.
