When you see evil what do you think? Psalm 14 includes a very short prayer asking for God to act.
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, they do abominable deeds, there is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven on the children of man, to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. (verses 1-2, ESV)
Do you every consider what the world looks like from God’s perspective? We at times may be discouraged by the world around us, but that is only a fraction of what God sees. Can you image how hurt He must be by those who reject Him?
They have all turned aside; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Have they no knowledge, all the evildoers who eat up my people as they eat bread and do not call upon the Lord? (verses 3-4, ESV)
Don’t people realize their own foolishness? No, we usually don’t. Because of our sinful nature, none of us turns to God in our own strength. God also doesn’t like to see us harm one another.
There they are in great terror, for God is with the generation of the righteous. You would shame the plans of the poor, but the Lord is his refuge. (verses 5-6 ESV)
God will put an end to all evil. He will provide and protect His own.
Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad. (verse 7 ESV)
This last verse switches from observation to a prayer request. When we see sin, it can cause us to long for God to come more quickly that there can be relief from this present suffering.
