Greeter Instructions:

1.       Arrive at least 20 minutes before the start of the service.
2.       There will be 3 or 4 greeters for each service. Your family is encouraged to join you when greeting.
3.       Before starting to greet, put on a greeter badge (located in the podium drawer in the narthex) and keep it on throughout the service until your greeter duties conclude after everyone has exited the church. Please return the badge to the drawer before you leave church
4.       All greeters please wear a name tag. These too are located in the narthex podium drawer. You’ll have to write your name on them with a marker in the drawer.
5.       Before the service: Station yourself at the front and side (Broad Street) doors. Introduce yourself to the Elder of the Day.
6.       Greet everyone, both members and especially visitors or those people you may not have met before. Open the door, shake their hand, introduce yourself, do whatever you can do to make people feel welcome – like greeting a friend coming into your home.
7.       If there’s someone that is signing the guest book or that you know is a visitor, introduce yourself and ask them if they have a Welcome Packet (the burgundy folders located on the podium) this will answer many of the questions they may have about our church.
8.       Show or give directions to parents with young children where the nursery is. Invite people to Bible study, Sunday School or any special services during the week. Answer any questions a visitor may have:
*        Location of the bathrooms/nursery
*        Who’s eligible to receive Communion - direct them to the Pastor or an Elder
*        Location of the church office
9.       End of service: right after the pastor dismisses himself, greeters are also dismissed. Greeters are to station themselves at the 2 end doors leaving the sanctuary. Smiling, shaking hands with people and making eye contact as they leave seems to put a smile on their faces and has been very well received. People need this interaction to feel they are an important part of church. Shaking hands as people leave is also a good time to say hello to those who were already seated or used the other entrance before church. Please remember to stand by the end sanctuary doors as people exit the church; it’s a very important part to make contact with the largest amount of people.
10.    If you are unable to greet on your scheduled date, please find your own replacement, try to swap Sundays with a fellow greeter(s) first, use the alternates as a last resort. The greeters needing the replacement must contact the church office before 10 a.m. on Thursday so the correct name(s) can be placed in the bulletin.

The goal of the Greeter Program is to have a group of well-trained greeters that do a great job of greeting when assigned AND all of the time. We want everyone to always do such a good job at greeting that we put the Greeter Program out of business! J

Smiles and socializing with others IS contagious – non-greeters are catching on and feeling empowered to follow our lead – exactly what we were hoping for! Visitors and current members are feeling welcome . . . just as they should feel in church!

Welcoming people into the Lord’s house will not only make others feel  good, but it will also make us feel great knowing that we are doing what God has called us to do. You never know who will be walking through those doors, who just had a terrible week and could use a bright smile and a welcoming pat on the back.
